— Enchanting Night Sky Art Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Yanai City’s Merger —

Giant “Yanai Kingyo Chochin” Illuminates the Night Sky
The Yanai Kingyo Chochin Matsuri, now in its 34th year, began as a way to welcome people returning home for the Obon season with a local folk craft. Approximately 2,500 goldfish-shaped lanterns illuminate the venue, creating a soft, dreamlike atmosphere.

This year, in place of the traditional fireworks, a 300-drone show will serve as the grand finale. From 8:45 p.m. for about 15 minutes, the night sky will be lit with images of the iconic Yanai Kingyo Chochin, the traditional Yanai Shima textile, and other summer-inspired animations. The highlight will be an enormous Yanai Kingyo Chochin—measuring approximately 44 meters in height and 60 meters in width—floating in the night sky, captivating the audience with its overwhelming scale. This fusion of traditional culture and cutting-edge technology will offer visitors a truly special and unforgettable experience.
