[Drone × STEM Education] Redcliff to Offer Free Drone Programming Workshops for Middle and High School Students from Single-Parent Households

NEWS & TOPICS

– Collaborating with Child Support NPO to Host Career Talk and Hands-on Program on April 25 –

Redcliff Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Komei Sasaki; hereinafter “Redcliff”), a leader in drone show planning and operations, will host a “Drone Programming Experience Event” on Saturday, April 25, 2026. This initiative is held in collaboration with Good Neighbors Japan (Ota-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Satoshi Koizumi), a certified NPO, and is specifically designed for middle and high school students from single-parent households.

From the perspective of drone and STEM education, this event aims to broaden future career opportunities for children by providing a unique experience that combines career-focused lectures with hands-on practical programs.

Addressing Social Issues: The “Opportunity Gap” and Lack of STEM Education Access

According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “2022 Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions,” the relative poverty rate for single-adult households (single-mother and single-father families) in Japan stands at 44.5%. Due to financial constraints, children in single-parent households often face limited opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities or engage with cutting-edge technologies.

While access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is a critical factor in future career development, a significant gap currently exists based on family environments. Redcliff is hosting this event as part of its commitment to bridging this “opportunity gap” by leveraging advanced drone technology.

Expanding Future Opportunities Through Drone Education

The event consists of a two-part program that blends career development perspectives with hands-on technology experiences.

1.Career Talk by CEO Komei Sasaki

Komei Sasaki, CEO of Redcliff, discovered drones during his university years. Captivated by their potential, he made the bold decision to leave university to launch his own startup. Since then, he has rapidly grown his business in the drone industry, and in August 2024, he was recognized as one of the “Forbes JAPAN 30 UNDER 30 2024,” honoring young leaders who are changing the world.

In this talk, Sasaki will share his personal journey, discussing how to choose a path, the value of taking on challenges, and his professional mindset, providing students with inspiration to reflect on their own futures.

2.Drone Programming Workshop (STEM Education in Practice)

Following the career talk, participants will engage in a classroom session and a hands-on drone operation experience. Students will learn the following while flying educational programming drones:

  • Drone control via programming
  • Designing positions and movements
  • Applications in drone show production

By seeing the code they write translate into physical “movement” right before their eyes, students will deepen their understanding and interest in STEM fields.

Hula-JP: Educational Programming Drone

Hula-JP is an indoor educational drone weighing under 100g (*1), specifically developed for programming education. With a core focus on “blending fun and learning,” it aims to stimulate students’ curiosity, lower the barriers to learning AI and programming, and build self-confidence.

The drone supports multiple operation modes, including flight simulators, manual control, and autonomous programming flight. It caters to a wide range of skill levels—from beginners using Block Programming to advanced learners utilizing Python or ESP32 control.

Furthermore, the dedicated application is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac OS, making it highly adaptable for various educational environments. Hula-JP is designed to serve as a practical, hands-on teaching tool for the next generation of programming education.

*1: Classified as a drone weighing less than 100g under the Japanese Civil Aeronautics Act.

Redcliff’s Commitment to Drone and STEM Education

Since 2021, Redcliff has been a pioneer in the drone show industry, building a strong track record both in Japan and internationally. In recent years, the company has also focused on the educational sector, promoting the sale of educational programming drones and providing hands-on workshops for educational institutions and the general public.

Drone programming is a field perfectly suited for next-generation education, as it simultaneously nurtures logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the inherent entertainment value of drone technology makes it intuitive and accessible, even for children who may not initially have a strong interest in technology.

Moving forward, Redcliff will continue to advance initiatives that integrate drone technology with education. By expanding the reach of STEM education and creating new opportunities for hands-on experience, we are committed to contributing to the development of the next generation of talent.

Comment from Komei Sasaki, CEO of Redcliff Inc.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Good Neighbors Japan to bring this drone programming experience to children. Through our drone shows, we have delivered wonder and excitement to countless people, but our core mission has always been to expand new possibilities through technology.

This initiative is an opportunity to deliver that potential directly to the next generation. We see this as a vital action we can take as a company to address the current reality where opportunities for such experiences vary depending on a child’s environment.

The field of drones is a unique intersection of technology, planning, and creative expression. My hope is that through this hands-on experience, children will gain a sense of confidence—the feeling that ‘I can do this, too.’ We sincerely hope this event serves as a catalyst for broadening their future choices and horizons.”
