A new form of comedy expression through the fusion of television and drones
Nippon Television Network Corporation
Red Cliff collaborated on the performance for the comedy duo Magical Lovely on the Nippon TV program “Ariyoshi no Kabe: Tonight a Performer Announces a Live Marriage! The Biggest Funny Amusement Park in History,” which aired on March 25, 2026.
In this project, approximately 500 drones were used to depict “speech bubbles” in the night sky, expressing the inner thoughts of “Seibukkuma ma(?)”, a mascot character played by Crystal Noda.
Real-time performance under the constraints of rainy weather and a live broadcast
This project was carried out under the conditions of a live broadcast with only one chance to get it right, all while needing to account for the impact of the weather.
Within a limited production window, we developed the animation and fine-tuned the flight path to ensure the drones were perfectly aligned with the performer’s position.
By maintaining rigorous precision control and safety management during the live broadcast, we accurately realized the speech bubble performance that stayed true to the character.
The performed skit successfully received a “Pass” grade from the host, Mr. Ariyoshi.
The potential of drone performances in television programming
Utilizing drones in television programming requires a high degree of technical expertise due to factors such as filming environments and strict time constraints.
At Red Cliff, we leveraged the technology and operational expertise gained from our past achievements to deliver a performance that succeeded even under the pressures of a live, one-take broadcast.
We believe we provided a professional response to the performer’s specific creative vision and detailed requests.
By utilizing drones, we enable “expression in physical space” that differs from traditional visual effects, expanding the new frontiers of entertainment.
