– A One-Night-Only Story of Light Spreading Across the Expo Commemoration Park Sky –
Red Cliff Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Komei Sasaki; hereinafter “Red Cliff”), a company specializing in the planning and operation of drone shows, will be responsible for the direction and operation of a 500-drone show at the “4th Annual Expo Night Sky Art Festival 2025,” which is scheduled to be held at Expo Commemoration Park (Suita City, Osaka Prefecture) on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Red Cliff’s direction of the drone show at the “Expo Night Sky Art Festival” marks the second consecutive year, following last year’s performance. Red Cliff, which participated as a Platinum Partner for the Association’s planned events at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, will return to the Osaka night sky to illuminate a special night with a drone show where music and light are perfectly synchronized.
This event, which started in 2022 with the theme of “Delivering Gratitude to the Night Sky,” was born from the desire to offer a moment of relief and a connection to tomorrow’s vitality during the long period of self-restraint caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also held to express gratitude to the medical professionals who continued to strive on the front lines. The event has since continued to develop as a deeply rooted cultural event in the region, attracting a cumulative total of over 80,000 visitors.
The drone show, first introduced last year, generated significant buzz and earned high praise. This year, the composition and direction will be further evolved to enhance its cultural value.
Evolved Drone Show Production Featuring 500 Aircraft
The drone show will be conducted in two parts, taking place before and after the fireworks display. The show will commence with a countdown during the opening, where 500 drone lights will meticulously synchronize with the music over approximately 10 minutes, creating three-dimensional art that transforms the night sky into a giant canvas.
This year, the audience seating area has been moved to the Momijigawa Lawn Plaza, providing a layout that allows the show to be enjoyed from a wider area. Correspondingly, the animation size has expanded to a maximum of 155m high, 155m wide, and 130m deep, enabling expressions with an even greater sense of scale than last year.
In addition to abstract and geometric motifs, performances inspired by winter constellations and the Christmas season will be rendered fantastically by drones equipped with high-luminosity “Flash Modules.” With a production and composition different from the drone shows held at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, this event will offer visitors a memorable and impressive night sky art experience.
In the show’s finale, [XXXX] will appear in the night sky. We encourage you to watch and imagine what the giant motif created by the drones will be.
This initiative, which fuses drone technology with artistic expression, is not merely a form of event production; it aims to develop drone shows as a regional cultural asset. Red Cliff will continue to contribute to regional revitalization and tourism promotion through drone shows, delivering inspiring experiences staged in the night sky across Japan.
Comment from Kazuhiro Aiba, Director, Red Cliff Co., Ltd.
“The biggest highlight of the drone show at the ‘4th Annual Expo Night Sky Art Festival 2025’ is the synchronization of sound and light. By utilizing the new Flash Module technology, the light’s blinking and intensity are fused with the rhythm of the music, creating an even greater sense of immersion. Furthermore, the selection of multi-faceted, playful motifs—designed to give different impressions depending on the viewing angle—generates depth and three-dimensionality throughout the work. We sincerely hope you will experience it firsthand at the venue.”
